EMI and SIP auto-debits: fund the account the day before, not the day of

Auto-debits feel like the safe option: set the mandate once and forget it. Then salary lands a day late, or the savings sit in a different account, and the EMI or the SIP bounces. The bank charges for the failed debit, the lender may charge again, and a SIP instalment is simply skipped.

Why debits bounce

  • The money is in the wrong account. The mandate was set on the account you used three years ago.
  • Salary arrives after the debit date in a month with a weekend or a holiday in the way.
  • Two debits land on the same day and the first one empties the account for the second.

The habit

A reminder on the debit date is too late; by then the mandate has already been presented. The useful reminder is a day or two before, saying move the money into the account the mandate pulls from. One small transfer ahead of time is the whole fix.

How EasyDooo does it

In Bills and dues on the Budget page, the loan EMI and SIP templates add a second reminder: a fund-the-account task a set number of days before the debit, two days for an EMI and one for a SIP, changeable up to thirty. It sits in Tasks with the bill's own reminder, so your daily reminder says what to move and where before the day it is needed.

When the debit goes through, mark the bill Paid and the payment is recorded in Budget against its category and the account it came from, and next month's reminders are scheduled. If you share the bank's EMI or SIP message into the Android app, the bill is set up with the fund reminder already on.
